Beaba Babycook Solo

My recent buy is the Beaba Babycook Solo. Been wanting it for as long as I could remember. It’s definitely the higher end baby product but I just want to give it a try. Been seeing good reviews about it, so why not?

What is Beaba Babycook Solo?

Beaba Babycook Solo is a convenient, innovative 4-in-1 food processor, steamer, defroster and reheater all in one! In fact, it is so easy to use that busy mums can use it with just one hand! Steaming vegetables retains more vitamins than other cooking methods so gift your child with truly healthy and nutritious meals that also taste equally delicious.

This 1.1 liter capacity Babycook Solo also features an auto shut-off feature, sound signal at the end of the cooking cycle, back-lit screen and descaling indicator. Stylish and compact, this Babycook Solo is perfect for kitchen counter-tops as well as for taking along on your travels so you can make fresh, healthy food on the go! It even cooks rice or pasta!

This means there is no need to bring out the steamer or pots and do the extra cleaning. WHEEEE~~~

I got it two days ago and I got to give it a try. Too long to wait till the weekends. ^.^ So I made apple puree for Syafii. It was so simple!

I used 3 medium sized organic gala apples. (I chose to use organic as apples are in one of the dirty dozen food list)
  • Peel and core the apples. Cut into small chunks and place into the steamer basket.
  • Fill the water to number 2 and pour into the reservoir.
  • Place the steamer basket to the jug and cook. It will take around 12-15 mins, I think? I just wait for the beeping sound.
  • Once cooked, pour out the liquid (or you could save some, just in case you need it to make it smoother.  I used about 2-3 tablespoon of the liquid).
  • Puree the cooked apples till smooth.

Can’t remember how much it yields but I think it is good for up to 6 servings? I gave some to Syafii and he likes it. I portioned out the remaining apple puree and freeze it.

New mum at 5 months

Seriously, I don’t know how to start this. I’m so bad at writing essays what more a blog?! Maybe I shall start by introducing myself? Or just go with the flow? Hmmm….

I’m a full time working mom and gave birth to an adorable son, Syafii. My first born! He is taken care by 2 different caregivers – they are my mum, mum-in-law. Why 2 you say? Ever since I got married I made a decision to shift houses weekly coz we are still waiting for our BTO and I don’t want to be stuck in one house only. So naturally after I gave birth, the same “rule” applies. There’s much to it but I think it’s best to keep it short. Also, I don’t feel like explaining… hahaha.

I’m still getting the hang of it at 5 months plus but they say slowly but surely you’ll get there. It’s always a learning experience day by day. I used to help my mum take care of my younger siblings back then (feeding, cleaning, all sorts) but it is different comparing to take care of your own. At 3 months I had a rough time. It is when I questioned why this happen to my little one. Mashallah. How could I question the test I’ve given from Allah? Astaghfirullah. Syafii had a mild eczema and it saddens to see him scratching all over and crying coz of the itch. His eczema was all over his body and face. We tried everything we could, from seeing different paediatricians and trying all sorts of cream and lotions. Alhamdulillah (all praises to Allah), his condition is much much better now at 24 weeks old.

Currently this are the combo I used and Alhamdullilah there is a difference I must say. I will do a seperate post on this soon.
- Sebamed Baby Wash
- Sebamed Baby Lotion for Body
- Sebamed Baby Protective Facial Cream

I’ve started feeding him solids once a day. I started with fruits and vegetables coz I personally feel that it is the best first food compared to the commercially made rice or oat cereals or even homemade plain rice porridge. I understand that at about 6 months, babies iron stores starts depleting and they require iron in their diet. So naturally mothers turn to commercially made cereals for the extra iron needed. However, I don’t feel the need to give my baby those as he is already getting iron in his diet from his formula milk. And partly that’s another reason I chose natural food instead. I felt that I lacked by not breastfeeding him for the last few months. Somehow I choose this to give back and feed him honest natural food as much as I possibly can. I know it sounds stupid but this is the only way I feel less guilty about it.

So what is the first food I gave to my baby?

AVOCADO!
It is rich in good fat that is wonderful for baby’s brain and physical development!

- Pick a ripe avocado and mash it. Thin it with either water, formula or breast milk.

Syafii didn’t really enjoy plain ol’ mashed avocado. But when added milk to it, he loves it! I started with giving him ¼ of an avocado per day. If your baby doesn’t like it, don’t give up and try again another day.

*Do take note that at this stage, it is not necessarily to start giving solids to babies. It all depends on how ready your baby is. Also, start at only 1 meal per day. Don’t rush and enjoy this process coz someday you’ll realize they will be eating the same meal as you are!

Then I gradually change from avocado to SWEET POTATOES!
It is high in Vitamin A and beta carotene as well as potassium. It also contains a good amount of Vitamin E, calcium and folate. Win!

- Clean and peel the sweet potatoes. Cut into small chunks and steam till fork tender. Reserve the obtained water (Don’t throw away yet! All the goodness is in it.) Puree the sweet potatoes till smooth and use the reversed water if needed. You can thin it further with either water, formula or breast milk.

Syafii really loves this. I gave him as it is and he finished it all!

+Note: I freezed the remaining pureed sweet potatoes and it can be kept in the freezer up to  3 months! Best to use within one month.

Beginning

The mere reason for this blog is to document the daily life (like a journal) of being a wife and a mom in this little family.

Wish me luck.
